AWG MEMBERSHIP and COMMISSIONING REQUIREMENTS

Currently there are five basic rankings for Washington Generals:

1) Honorary Commissions (1-star Brigadiers): These are awarded to those candidates who show the Board that they merit such recognition no matter what their field  of endeavor.  Since a commission in the Association is now, by decree,  the most important formal distinction awarded by the State of Washington, the candidate must prove worthy  in order to uphold the standard of the honor. Candidates should be restricted to men and women who have made a contribution to the State of Washington in fields considered viable by the Board. Names should be submitted to the Commissioning Committee for due consideration, and upon acceptance, the commissions and rank stars awarded in a public ceremony. Exceptions to this requirement must be decided upon by the Commanding General. No votes are allowed or dues required of Honorary Brigadiers, but particular note is taken of those candidates who have the potential to become dues-paying actives in the Association, thereby making  a genuine contribution for the good of the order as we expand and grow. This prospect can be underscored in the aforementioned Honorary Commissioning Ceremony so that new Generals are immediately made aware of the potential for service and advancement within the AWG.

 2) Major Generals (2-star rank): These are the workhorses of the AWG ,  commissioned as active fee-paying members, and the word “active” is paramount. Qualifying factors must include a willingness to serve the AWG by making use of the candidate’s individual skills within the Association. Nominees with personal and professional prowess and virtuosity  should apply these qualities to the advantage of the Association, particularly in the areas of fund-raising, education, development, promotion, publicity and public relations etc., and by their execution of new ideas, increase public awareness of AWG objectives and expand current programs with adequate financing and the necessary support elements.

3) Lieutenant Generals (3-star rank): The officers considered for this rank should be chosen from  viable candidates based on exemplary performance within any of the AWG’s programs or committees, or for individual contributions or services deemed  worthy by the Command Group and the Board.

4) Four-star rank is reserved for those Lieutenant Generals who are appointed to serve for a minimum of two years in executive positions in the Command Group or on the Board.

5)  Five-star rank is granted to current and former Commanding Generals who serve a minimum of two years in that position. An equivalent rank of Ambassador General will be conferred upon the appointment of a qualified General to serve for a similar period on the Boards of any Department within the State of Washington in Olympia, or at any level of State, County or City government to further the involvement of citizens in governance, and  to influence AWG  recognition in Olympia throughout the State and overseas.
